Abstract
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention defines an intimate partner as a person with whom one has a close personal relationship that includes an emotional connectedness and an ongoing physical relationship. The Oklahoma Statistical Analysis Center (SAC) analyzed the number of intimate partner murders (IPMs) that were reported by Oklahoma law enforcement from 2011-2016. The SAC conducted both qualitative and quantitative analyses of utilizing the State Incident-Based Reporting System (SIBRS) reports. Researchers also assessed the quality of the SIBRS reports and developed recommendations to improve data quality. For this research, the following relationships were included for the study: spouses; common-law spouses; boyfriend or girlfriend; dating relationships; or former spouses.
