The Justice Information Center (JIC) is a searchable database of the research and evaluation work of the Justice Information Resource Network's staff, members, and partners. The JIC also includes other open-access and public-domain research-based materials. The JIC's contents are from the national, state, and local levels covering a range of crime and justice topics grouped into several Communities and Collections based on our projects.

This report provides information on qualifying incidents as submitted by the state of TN's law enforcement agencies to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation through the CrimeInsight Portal. Law enforcement-related death is defined as "the death of an individual in custody, whether in prison, in jail, or otherwise in the custody of law enforcement pursuant to an arrest or a transfer between institutions of any kind; or the death of an individual potentially resulting form an interaction with law enforcement, while the law enforcement officer is on duty, or while the law enforcement officer is off duty but performing activities that are within the scope of the officer's law enforcement duties without regard to whether the individual was in custody or whether a weapon was involved."

2022 crime on campus in Tennessee

Pursuant to the 1989 "College and University Security Information Act" enacted by the General Assembly, the TN Bureau of Investigation is publishing the annual Crime on Campus report. This report presents the nature, volume, and extent of reported crime on the campuses and in the housing of TN colleges & universities during calendar year 2022.
The report is based on data submitted to the TBI through the TN Incident Based Reporting System (TIBRS) program, which collects data on all crimes occurring in TN. All law enforcement agencies, as well as colleges and universities, are mandated to report crime statistics to the TBI. This report is produced from the TIBRS program and comparison statistics are included.
