Abstract
AG Directive 2021-12 required all New Jersey law enforcement agencies to track applications for “No Knock Warrants” and provide an annual summary of those applications to the Attorney General. Agencies were required to send this information directly to their County Prosecutor (hereafter “CPO”). In turn, the CPOs were required to report whether any agency within their jurisdiction submitted any applications for no knock warrants to the Office of the Attorney General. Agencies reporting applications for no knock warrants were then required to submit counts of:
• # of applications for “No Knock” provisions applied for to the court
• # of applications for “No Knock” provisions approved by a court
• # of No Knock entries justified by exigent circumstances
This report details the volume of no knock warrants for the reporting period of January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2022, the first full year reporting period since the Directive. [Author Overview]
