These groups may be seeking information about the significance of the data, implications for reform, or your state’s response to trends within the data. By releasing these data, BJA aims to improve transparency, accountability, and safety within the justice system.Item Open Access Mapping police violence - Using the Mapping Police Violence (MPV) Database for Death in Custody Reporting Act (DCRA) compliance(JIRN, 2024-05) Justice Information Resource NetworkMapping Police Violence (MPV) is a project of Campaign Zero (CZ) that records incidents where a law enforcement officer (off-duty or on-duty) applies lethal force on a civilian. Data is collected by using Google News to identify relevant media articles. CZ researchers then review the articles to determine if it qualifies as an incident of police violence, record relevant information, and share it to their public database. Researchers also perform periodic validation by matching incidents to those available through Fatal Encounters, The Washington Post, and official government sources.
